Summer 2024 Property Tax Bills in the Mail

July 5, 2024 - Summer 2024 tax notices to City of Midland property owners were mailed the first week of July. Summer taxes are due and payable without penalty or interest from July 1 through September 16, 2024.

Residents are reminded that their summer tax notices will be printed on a yellow double-sided postcard that includes the City's logo. The cards feature two perforated areas that can be detached: one portion to be submitted with the tax bill, while the other can be used to submit address changes to the City Assessor's Office. All personal information is contained only on the interior, sealed portion of the card.

Property owners who do not receive a summer tax notice by July 14 should contact the Midland City Treasurer's Office at 989-837-3315.

The summer tax notice combines the full annual tax levy for the City of Midland, Delta College, Midland County Operating, State Education Tax, and part of the annual tax levy for Midland Public Schools and Midland County Educational Service Agency. The total summer millage rate on principal residence property in the City of Midland within the Midland Public School District is 31.3224 mills; the total on non-principal residence real property is 40.1281 mills.

A one percent (1%) tax administration fee will be imposed on all applicable summer and winter taxes. This fee is authorized by State law to offset costs incurred by the City in assessing property values, collecting property tax levies, and in the assessment review and appeal process. The tax administration fee is calculated on the base tax.

A taxpayer who is 62 years of age or older; or a totally and permanently disabled person, blind person, paraplegic, quadriplegic, eligible serviceperson, eligible veteran, eligible widow or widower; and who has a household income under $40,000 may request an "Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes" from the City Treasurer's Office. This application defers the summer tax penalty on the applicant's principal residence until February 14, 2025. Deferment applications must be received in the Treasurer's Office by September 16, 2024, in order to be eligible for this deferment. After September 16, 2024, a four percent (4%) penalty is applied to the unpaid balance of the Summer 2024 property taxes.
