EU brings additional relief to victims of typhoon Yagi in Vietnam

In the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, the European Union (EU) is releasing an additional allocation of €150,000to provide further humanitarian assistance, aiming to benefit 130,000 people in some of the most affected provinces (Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, and Lang Son).

This amount comes in addition to the €650,000 in humanitarian aid that were already approved last week, in response to this disaster in the country. The EU has approved over €2.3 million to address the impact of Yagi across the region, with funding for Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and the Philippines.

The additional funding will support the Vietnam Red Cross Society to continue delivering assistance to people that have lost their homes and livelihoods. Support will include delivering food and essential household items, as well as cash grants for different purposes, such as rebuilding homes. Emergency health services and activities to promote hygiene and prevent waterborne diseases are also planned, as well as support for schoolchildren.

The funding is part of the EU's overall contribution to the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
