New protected left-turn signals at two Thickson Road intersections in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario - In support of Durham Vision Zero, The Regional of Municipality of Durham has modified left-turn signals at two Thickson Road (Regional Road 26) intersections in the Town of Whitby.

Where: The northbound to westbound left-turn signal at Thickson Road and Taunton Road (Regional Road 4), and the southbound to eastbound left-turn signal at Thickson Road and Dundas Street in Whitby.

When: These new signals were installed recently and are currently in operation.

Why: To reduce collisions at these two intersections, a separate, fully protected left-turn signal has been installed to improve safety for motorists making a northbound left-turn from Thickson Road onto Taunton Road, and making a southbound left-turn from Thickson Road onto Dundas Street.

New traffic signal indications were installed specifically for these movements to ensure motorists only turn left when the green left-turn arrow is visible.

Note: This initiative is in support of Durham Vision Zero, a long-term plan to ensure a safer transportation system that sees no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham's roadways. Learn more at durham.ca/VisionZero.
