Wisconsin Launches Home Efficiency Rebates Program

On August 1, 2024, the Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation launched the Home Efficiency Rebates program, making it the first state to deploy Home Energy Performance-Based Whole-House Rebates (HOMES) funding authorized by the Inflation Reduction Act.

Wisconsin will administer the rebates through an existing energy efficiency program, Focus on Energy, to provide qualified residents with rebates for energy-saving, whole-home retrofits in existing single-family and multifamily homes. The rebate amount will depend on the expected energy savings after project completion and the household's income relative to area median income. For example, single-family households with modeled energy savings between 20 percent and 34 percent will be eligible for rebates between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on their household income; and households with savings of 35 percent or greater will be eligible for rebates between $3,000 and $10,000 depending on their household income. Multifamily units are eligible for the same rebate amounts as single-family households with building rebate maximums up to $200,000 for savings between 20 percent and 34 percent and up to $400,000 for savings of 35 percent or greater.
