In Case You Missed It: NACDS Food Is Medicine Initiatives Featured as “HHS Bright Spot”

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion this week highlighted NACDS Food Is Medicine initiatives in HHS Bright Spots - which features "Food Is Medicine leaders and stakeholders in various settings and systems throughout the United States."

Specifically, Bright Spots highlights:

  • NACDS' advancement of Food Is Medicine efforts through its Nourish My Health public education campaign, and
  • the Milken Institute's Food Is Medicine care action plan supported by NACDS, which explains and advocates for ways that pharmacies can implement Food Is Medicine programs to effectively address nutrition, health, and hunger.

Bright Spots says: "NACDS is included in the Bright Spots series to describe the possible role for pharmacies in the FIM landscape and highlight how associations and other organizations can use public health campaigns to improve consumers' dietary habits."

It highlights NACDS' work on a national campaign that is "data driven" and that delivers "strategic messaging," and describes the campaign's goals, equity-focus, partners, key components to success, lessons learned, and next steps.

NACDS' emphasis on Food Is Medicine and the Nourish My Health public education campaign are part of the NACDS Health and Wellness Innovation Initiative.

The Hunger, Nutrition and Health Action Collaborative - an undertaking of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation - published an article titled "Building a Successful Partnership Starts with a Shared Vision."
