NYC Health + Hospitals today announced NYC Health + Hospitals/Community Care Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Nicole Jordan-Martin, NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health Chief Executive Officer Svetlana Lipyanskaya, and MetroPlusHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Talya Schwartz have been named to the Crain's New York Business '2024 Notable Leaders in Health Care' recognition list. Jordan-Martin, Lipyanskaya, and Dr. Schwartz are recognized for their excellence in the health care sector and for their commitment to supporting underserved communities across New York City. The list also includes former NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health Public Affairs Director Bridgette Ingraham-Roberts. The nominees were put forward for consideration by their peers, companies and acquaintances, and then selected by Crain's New York Business editors based on their demonstrated accomplishments, professional success and meaningful contributions to their respective industries. Crain's New York Business connects businesses across the five boroughs by providing analysis and opinion on how to navigate New York's complex business and political landscape.
As Chief Executive Officer, Nicole Jordan-Martin provides leadership and oversight for overall strategy, implementation and associated performance metrics for Community Care. She is responsible for strategic priorities including patient growth, clinical integration, care management, quality, financial sustainability, and business operations. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Jordan-Martin served as Chief Operating Officer for Community Care providing executive leadership for the overall business development strategy, implementation and associated performance metrics of Community Care. She was responsible for operational leadership in the areas of Information Technology (IT), Facilities Management, Project Management, Contracting, Human Resources, as well as maintaining a network of Community-based Organizations (CBOs) to support the community-based care management needs of the enterprise's attributed patients. She previously held the positions of Deputy Executive Director of the Health Home and Chief Program Officer to Community Care. Ms. Jordan-Martin received an MPA in Public Health Administration from Long Island University and a BS in Health Services Administration from St. Joseph's College where she also earned certificates in Healthcare management and Home Care Administration.
Svetlana Lipyanskaya, MPA, FACHE, is the trailblazing first woman to lead the executive team at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. She has expertly navigated the hospital through the challenges of COVID-19 and its recovery while launching a state-of-the-art inpatient facility. By securing essential funding for critical infrastructure projects, she is reshaping access to healthcare in the community. Her bold strategic vision prioritizes the development of comprehensive medical and behavioral ambulatory services, truly embodying the NYC Health + Hospitals mission. A recognized leader, Svetlana is featured in City and State's Brooklyn Power 100 and honored by Becker's Hospital Review and was celebrated on the NY State Assembly floor for her transformative impact on healthcare.
Under the leadership of Dr. Talya Schwartz, MetroPlusHealth has grown to 700,000 members, representing nearly 1 in 5 New Yorkers enrolled in EP, Medicaid or Child Health Plus, with a robust 80% recertification rate. Since her appointment in 2019, Dr. Schwartz has spearheaded a series of strategic initiatives driving growth and success, including enhancing member experience, and expanding its provider network. MetroPlusHealth has also ascended to the No. 1 HIV Special Needs Plan, achieving an impressive 82% success rate in viral suppression. Dr. Schwartz is a dedicated advocate for the City's vulnerable populations, as evidenced by her investment in welfare programs such as Housing for Health, which facilitates access to affordable housing, and Medically Tailored Meals, which provides no-cost meal deliveries. Additionally, she has connected New Yorkers to vital resources at over 500 community events, including drives for winter coats, nutritious food, and vaccinations.
Internally, Dr. Schwartz has launched MetroPlusHealth's inaugural Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Initiative, aimed at fostering an inclusive workplace environment that reflects the diverse communities served by the organization. She advocates for these principles industry-wide through her roles as a board member in professional organizations, including the New York Health Plan Association, New York Public Health Plans and The Health Plan Alliance. A trained physician, Dr. Schwartz earned her medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine, completed her residency in Pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and practiced at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. She holds a graduate Health Services Management and Leadership certificate from George Washington University.
