TXOGA Statement on Passing of Former Board Member Urban “Obie” Francis O’Brien III

AUSTIN - Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) today issued the following statement on the passing of former TXOGA Board Member Urban "Obie" Francis O'Brien III:

"Obie's passing is a loss for the oil and natural gas industry, and to our great state of Texas that he loved.

"After earning undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Obie worked in the campaigns to elect U.S. Congressman Mike Andrews and U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen. After his career in political campaigns and Congress, Obie went to work for George Mitchell, one of the great pioneers in the Texas oil and natural gas industry. He later joined the Apache Corporation where he spent the remainder of his career, and during which time he served as a member of the TXOGA Board from 2015-2018.

"Obie's leadership for industry will continue to be felt for years, and the many friends he made will miss him sorely. We are thankful for Obie's life and for his many years of devotion to improving the oil and natural gas industry."
