Matthew Heath, Sr., a local hero after December 2023, tornado, recognized

Heroes in the recovery phase after the December 2023 north Clarksville tornado have been many.

One, in particular, was recognized by Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and the City Council during the Council's Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024 regular session.

Matthew Heath, Sr., owner of Dream Wingz on Tiny Town Road, distinguished himself as one of the first individuals on the ground, helping to feed volunteers of tornado recovery.

Heath also helped to shelter those people who needed it after the tornado that killed four people and caused extensive destruction across a 12-mile swath of the northern half of Clarksville.

Along with helping by providing shelter, Heath provided food to the numerous shelters around Clarksville protecting people displaced by the tornado.

The proclamation presented to Heath by Mayor Pitts honors his "dedicated service and invaluable contributions to the City of Clarksville in the aftermath of the devastating December 2023 tornado."

Heath, in remarks prior to the presentation of the proclamation, said he wants to help others not for recognition, but rather, because he, too, has struggled in his own past, and was helped at a time when he desperately needed it. He just wants to pay it forward.
