Oak Ridge, Tennessee: Manhattan Project National Historical Park will hold a ranger program, Secrecy, Security and Spies, at the Oak Ridge Turnpike Checking Station (2900 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830) on Saturday, August 17th from 11AM to 12PM ET. Dive into the history of America's Secret City and learn how wartime security affected the lives of the 80,000 war workers of the Clinton Engineer Works, along with the few who tried to subvert this secret project.

The ranger program will take place inside of the Oak Ridge Turnpike Checking Station, as space allows. If a larger group than can safely meet in the Checking Station attends the program, the talk will take place outside with an opportunity to view the historic building in smaller groups.

Unable to attend? The park is offering other ranger led opportunities throughout the month:

  • Two programs are scheduled for the evening of August 15th, a ranger walk in Jackson Square, Building America's Secret City, from 6-7pm ET followed by the summer-time favorite, Tennis Court Dances, on the Jackson Square Tennis Courts from 7-8pm ET. Looking to do both? The ranger walk will conclude at the tennis courts in time for the first dance.
  • A ranger talk, K-25: Enriching Uranium in Happy Valley, will be held at the K-25 Overlook on Saturday, August 24 at 11AM ET. More information on all programs and more can be found on the Manhattan Project National Historical Park website, www.nps.gov/MAPR. Visit the park calendar for more details and directions.
