Georgia Public Service Commission approves Atlanta Gas Light’s Integrated Capacity and Delivery Plan

Plan approves capital for critical system investments for next three years, enabling Atlanta Gas Light to ensure safety and reliability while meeting increasing demand and maintaining affordability

ATLANTA - July 2, 2024 - The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) voted today to approve Atlanta Gas Light's second filed Integrated Capacity Development Plan (i-CDP).

The i-CDP provides the PSC and other stakeholders with a 10-year long-range forecast of capacity asset requirements and the infrastructure necessary to deliver that capacity for Atlanta Gas Light's system. It includes a more detailed look at the first three years of the plan.

Using a longer-range planning outlook provides a more accurate and comprehensive view of Atlanta Gas Light's long-term plans and increases transparency into proposed work in advance of ratemaking proceedings. This process is expected to generate more stable and predictable rates for customers. The plan also provides comprehensive programs necessary to operate a safe, reliable and affordable natural gas system to meet current and future customer demand in the state.

The company files updates to the i-CDP for consideration every three years. The next update to the i-CDP will be filed in 2027.

"As the oldest corporation in Georgia, we're proud to be a part of the fabric that supports Georgia's economic growth and prosperity. It's a part of our DNA and one we take seriously when delivering the clean, safe, reliable and affordable natural gas our customers and communities deserve," said Pedro Cherry, president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light. "Our state has seen unprecedented growth, and the Georgia Public Service Commission's decision to approve the i-CDP will ensure Georgia has the natural gas infrastructure necessary to continue to fuel our homes and businesses safely, reliably and affordably in the decades to come."

During the i-CDP proceedings, the Commission approved capital for the next three years and continued its support of the company's existing System Reinforcement Rider (SRR) surcharge adjustment. The adjustment will go toward strengthening areas of the Atlanta Gas Light system that require more and larger pipes to meet new and existing customers' energy needs and to keep pace with Georgia's growth and economic development, while maintaining affordability. To recover costs related to these efforts, the surcharge will change from $0.32 cents to $1.15 per month for residential customers.

Also, during the proceedings and new for the 2024 filing, the PSC approved a surcharge recovery mechanism for capital projects related to municipal, county and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) infrastructure work. Any rate changes associated with the new GDOT surcharge will be decided during AGL's Georgia Rate Adjustment Mechanism (GRAM) which will be filed with the PSC on July 15. If approved, rates will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
