Native American Institute announces initial schedule for “Native November” celebrations

The Native American Institute at Southeastern Oklahoma State University has announced its schedule of events for the annual Native November celebration.

The Native American Institute at Southeastern is dedicated to the support of Native student academic and professional success, tribal partnerships, and community-wide exposure to our region's Native American heritage. Native American students make up 28 percent of Southeastern's student population and Southeastern ranks in the top 10 nationally for graduating Native students.

NATIVE NOVEMBER SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday, November 1-Sunday, November 3: The Native American Student Association (NASA) and Master of Science in Native American Leadership (MSNAL) program will have an informational booth at the annual Choctaw Powwow

Friday, November 1, from 10 a.m.-Noon: Chickasaw Cultural Make and Take Beaded Earrings, at the Chickasaw Student Center in the Center for Student Success. Food and drinks will be provided.

Monday, November 4, starting at noon: Choctaw Make and Take Beading, in Hallie McKinney 150.

Tuesday, November 5, starting at 11 a.m.: Indian Taco Food Truck at the Semple Family Museum of Native American Art. The first 100 indian tacos are free with an SE student ID. Dessert will be available at the Native American Institute in the Center for Student Success.

Thursday, November 7, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Free Indian Taco Lunch provided by the Native American Student Association, at the Wesley Center. For students, faculty, and staff.

Saturday, November 9, starting at 11 a.m.: Native American Student Association and the Choctaw Nation College First Year Initiative (FYI) will host a spot in Tailgate Alley prior to the Savage Storm football game vs. Arkansas Tech.

Wednesday, November 13 at noon: Presentation on the Choctaw Code Talkers in Student Union 213.

Wednesday, November 13 at 7 p.m.: Native American Student Association Dream Catcher Making, Student Union Loft.

Thursday, November 14 from 10 a.m.-Noon: Chickasaw Cultural Mini Pucker-Toe Moccasins Class at the Chickasaw Student Center in the Center for Student Success. Food and drinks will be provided.

Thursday, November 14 at 2 p.m.: Faculty and Staff Beading Class, in Russell Building 100.

Friday, November 15, is the annual Rock Your Moccasins Day on campus, with all campus constituents encouraged to celebrate Native American heritage by wearing moccasins. Photos posted online with the #RockYourMocsSE hashtag will be entered into a prize drawing.

Wednesday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m.: Native American Student Association will host its annual Indian Taco Fundraiser Dinner at the Wesley Center.
