Warwick, RI - RI Republican Party Chairman Joe Powers today criticized President Joe Biden's last-minute pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, calling it a troubling breach of public trust. The pardon follows President Biden's recent claims that Hunter Biden was "unfairly prosecuted," despite ongoing legal proceedings and serious allegations against him.

"This is a deeply disappointing move that undermines the American people's faith in the justice system," said Chairman Powers. "President Biden's decision to pardon his son directly contradicts his earlier pledge to respect the independence of the Department of Justice. Actions like this fuel perceptions that justice is not applied equally to all citizens."

President Biden's claim that his son was unfairly prosecuted has also drawn sharp criticism. Chairman Powers noted that the same argument could be made about how political opponents, including President Donald Trump, have faced extraordinary scrutiny and legal challenges in recent years.
