BISMARCK, ND- The Bismarck Fire Department quickly contained a kitchen fire at a single-family home on the morning of November 17th, 2024.
At approximately 9:26 AM, the Bismarck Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at a home on the 900 block of West Sweet Avenue. Bismarck Fire Crews were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 9:31 AM to find smoke coming from the home. The residents, who were home at the time, had already evacuated, and fire crews were able to enter the house and extinguish the blaze.
The fire, which started in the kitchen, was caused by a pot left unattended on the stove. The flames spread to the cabinets before being quickly brought under control. While the kitchen sustained significant damage, the fire was confined to that area, with smoke and heat damage affecting surrounding rooms.
The four residents, including two children, were evaluated by Metro Area Ambulance for potential smoke inhalation. The children were released to their parents without further medical treatment. No injuries were reported to either the residents or firefighters.
The Bismarck Fire Department would like to remind the public of the importance of working smoke detectors. In this incident, the residents were alerted to the fire by the home's smoke detector, allowing them to evacuate in time.
The fire was determined to be accidental, and the Bismarck Fire Department urges everyone to practice fire safety, including never leaving cooking items unattended and regularly checking smoke detectors.
