The Initial Press Release of APEX AFA62 Training Flight Landing on an Unassigned Runway at Tainan Airport

On August 24, 2024, at 07:35 Taipei time, a DA-40NG aircraft operated by APEX Flight Academy, with registration number B-88003, took off from Taitung Airport to conduct instrument cross-country flight training en route to Tainan and Songshan Airports. At approximately 08:34, Tainan Airport tower cleared the aircraft to perform touch-and-go training on Runway 36R. After the aircraft touched down and took off again, the tower informed the crew that they had mistakenly used Runway 36L for the training. The aircraft then continued its flight training to Songshan Airport and safely landed back at Taitung Airport at 11:41.

After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched an investigator to APEX Flight Academy to gather information in accordance with procedures related to aviation occurrence investigations. The TTSB has classified this event as an aviation occurrence in accordance with the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. An official investigation has been initiated, and the investigation team will continue to gather relevant evidence.
