Democrats’ Vision for America’s Future: Investing in Families and Children and Growing the Middle Class

During day two of the DNC, Democrats highlight record of putting families first

On the second day of the DNC, House Democrats are reminding the country how, when we hold the majority, Democrats invest in programs to support families, lower costs, and build up their futures.

In the American Rescue Plan, House Democrats successfully expanded the maximum Child Tax credit to $3,600 per child. This expansion cut the child poverty rate to the lowest level in history and made life more affordable for families across the country.

Additionally, as a part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Democrats launched the Affordable Connectivity Program which lowered monthly internet bills for over 23 million American households. More than two-thirds of beneficiaries said they had inconsistent or no internet service prior to the program's existence.

House Republicans let these programs expire, raising costs for families across the country.

House Republicans have now set their sights on cuts to food assistance for families and children, putting forward plans to decimate and underfund SNAP by $165 million and WIC by $462 million. Cuts like these could jeopardize support for millions of women and children and make it harder for families to put food on the table. Trump and House Republicans' Project 2025 further threatens cuts to these essential programs.

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
"It's abundantly clear that House Democrats are the only party that is actually investing in children, families, and our future. Two more years of a Republican House majority would result in nothing but more chaos, extremism, and sucking up to Donald Trump - all at the expense of the middle class."
