WASHINGTON-Following the appointment of Brendan Carr to chair the FCC, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from Joe Kane, director of broadband and spectrum policy:
We congratulate Commissioner Carr on his soon-to-be Chairmanship. He has the experience and skill to reverse the course of anti-consumer partisan frolics beyond the FCC's jurisdiction that have characterized some of the current administration's major actions. He should refocus the Commission on spectrum policy centered on maximizing productivity and broadband policy that finds and addresses the remaining causes of the digital divide. As Chairman, Carr should be careful to keep the FCC in its lane. An agenda of careful adherence to the limited jurisdiction of the FCC will be essential. Expanding the regulatory state to go after "big tech" or other partisan political targets would be out of sync with the new administration's mandate.Contact: Austin Slater, [email protected]
