Oasis Charter Schools students bring innovation and creativity to downtown Fort Myers through their unique, handmade Diabetes Diagnosis Education Teddy Bears. These bears are available for purchase at The Franklin Shops in downtown Fort Myers, with all proceeds benefitting the school.
The Teddy Bears were created by Oasis Middle School students in the "Making for Good" class. These innovative bears are equipped with 3D-printed constant glucose monitors (CGMs) and feature custom-designed shirts, providing comfort and education to children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
More than 200 bears have been donated to children's hospitals nationwide, from Fort Myers, FL, to Cleveland, OH. Medical staff use the bears as a tool to explain CGMs to young patients, making the bears an invaluable resource during the diagnosis process. Proceeds from the teddy bear sales help fund supplies to expand this impactful program.
If you have any questions regarding the products, how the bears are made, or feedback for Oasis students, please contact Dr. John Omundsen, Director of K-12 STEM Education for the Oasis Charter Schools, at [email protected].
Thank you for supporting Oasis Charter Schools students in their journey of learning and innovation.
