BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS- Yesterday, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions, joined a distinguished bipartisan Congressional delegation led by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to Barbados. This visit underscores a shared commitment to advancing security, economic prosperity, and climate resilience between the United States and Barbados.
While in Barbados, the delegation will meet with government leaders and regional experts to deepen ties and collaborate on initiatives critical to the Western Hemisphere. This visit coincides with two significant milestones: the 58th anniversary of Barbados' independence and the centennial birthday celebration of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, a trailblazing Barbadian-American who broke barriers as the first Black woman elected to Congress and a major party candidate for president of the United States.
This high-level engagement builds on the Biden-Harris Administration's initiatives to enhance U.S. collaboration across the Caribbean and underscores the importance of regional cooperation.
"This delegation represents a unique opportunity to advance critical U.S.-Barbados priorities while honoring the enduring legacy of Shirley Chisholm," said Congresswoman Beatty. "Together, we are working to ensure a stronger, more secure, and prosperous future for both nations."
The distinguished delegation includes senior Members of Congress across key committees addressing regional issues. The delegation met with leaders at the U.S. Embassy in Barbados to commence their visit.
