REDDING- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2) and VSS International, Inc. are preparing to begin work on the Back Forty Chip Project on U.S. 395 in Lassen County. The $3.24 million project will provide an asphalt rubber chip seal on U.S. 395 east of Litchfield, from 0.5 mile east of Mapes Lane to Karlo Road. The project will also provide areas of asphalt concrete dig outs and the removal and replacement of thermoplastic markings and striping.

Construction activities for asphalt dig out work are currently planned to start Monday evening, August 19th and are planned through Friday, August 23rd between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m daily. Chip seal operations are currently planned to start on August 26th and will run through the end of September, with one-way traffic control planned Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Some operations on Saturdays may occur at times during the project. Motorists should plan for up to 14-minute delays during traffic control hours. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas, follow speed limit reductions in place, and allot extra time for delays. Please note the potential for loose gravel during chip placement operations.

Construction projects are subject to changes without prior notice. Caltrans and its contractors do our best to keep the public informed.
