Come Celebrate the National Park Service's 108th Birthday with Effigy Mounds National Monument: August 25, 2024

The National Park Service is turning 108! Effigy Mounds National Monument will be celebrating the birthday with a giant cake to share! We will cut the cake at 1pm - first come first serve for a piece! We will also have 100th anniversary pins available to children and adults who complete the Centennial Junior ranger book with us. Activities include make your own National Park postcard, a poetry station - written or your own impromptu poetry slam inspired by Effigy Mounds NM or your own favorite park - and more! This event is open to the public.

Peregrine Falcon Celebration: Saturday, September 28th 9:30am
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Peregrine Falcons being released on the bluffs at Effigy Mounds National Monument. Dave Kester from the Raptor Resource Project will present in the auditorium about his role in the falcon release project held at Effigy Mounds from 1998-1999.

Effigy Mounds National Monument 75th Anniversary Commemoration. October 26th 10am-12pm Join special guests to honor the anniversary of the monument with speeches, reception, and the introduction of our 75th anniversary junior ranger book and badge and a new hiking challenge series! Then from 12:30pm-4:30pm visitors can join park staff on one of four special tours - Yellow River boardwalk, Fire Point, Marching Bears, or Sny Magill and earn the first of their hiking challenge rewards!

Effigy Mounds National Monument preserves prehistoric American Indian burial and ceremonial mounds, including some in the shape of animals. The monument's main entrance is located three miles north of Marquette, Iowa, and 22 miles south of Waukon, Iowa, on HWY 76. Visitor Center hours are 9:00am to 4:30 pm, but trails are open from dawn until dusk.
