Nicorette® invites Canadian smokers to take the No Smoke November challenge

Toronto, ON, October 28, 2024 - Beginning November 1, 2024, Kenvue Canada Inc., the makers of Nicorette®, invite Canadian smokers to embark on a smoke-free journey by quitting smoking for 30 days with the No Smoke November challenge. This initiative, coincides with Lung Month, which highlights lung health and encourages positive changes for better respiratory well-being.

With over 3.5 million Canadians currently smoking and 79% expressing a strong desire to quit, No Smoke November offers a timely opportunity for smokers to take a significant step toward a healthier future.1,2 Research shows that a small quit journey can greatly increase the chances of long-term success; those who quit for one week are nine times more likely to quit for good.3

"We recognize the challenges people face when trying to quit smoking, as it often takes multiple attempts before achieving lasting success," said Katie Decker, Managing Director, Canada, Kenvue. "With No Smoke November, we want to remind everyone that seeking support from friends and family, health care practitioners, and using a treatment like nicotine replacement therapy can make a real difference. This month is a powerful reminder that with the right tools and resources, a smoke-free future is within reach.

Nicorette® is providing complimentary Nicorette® and Nicoderm® nicotine replacement therapy products, through Smokers' Helpline to support eligible Canadians during No Smoke November.

"There is a misconception that smoking is just a bad habit when it's actually a serious addiction to nicotine which is a highly addictive substance," says Dr. Leslie Phillips, a pharmacist and professor in the School of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University in St. John's, N.L. "Quitting smoking is probably one of the hardest things a person can do. People trying to quit should be supported and treated with compassion. Blame the cigarette not the smoker.

The benefits of quitting are felt within hours and after two weeks, breathing becomes easier, circulation improves, and the risk of heart attack decreases.4

Individuals interested in quitting can access a range of innovative smoking cessation support through Smokers' Helpline which serves PEI, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Yukon. Bilingual services are available by phone at 1-877-513-5333 and online at smokershelpline.ca. Text messaging support is also offered in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, along with interpreter services in over 100 languages.

"Quitting smoking can often feel isolating because many people believe it's a challenge they must face alone," said Nancy Wirtz, Manager, Cancer Prevention, Canadian Cancer Society. "However, success rates improve significantly with support. That's why we are excited to support the No Smoke November challenge with personalized support, resources, counseling and free nicotine replacement therapy through Smokers' Helpline."

As part of this initiative, Smokers' Helpline is offering a trial package of Nicoderm® patches and Nicorette® nicotine gum to qualifying quitters while supplies last. By registering for a Smokers' Helpline profile, eligible participants can receive two NICODERM® Step 1 patches (21 mg), one sleeve of 15 Nicoderm® Fresh Fruit Gums (2 mg), a discount coupon for $10 off the purchase of any two participating Nicoderm® or Nicorette® products, and valuable information on the benefits of combination therapy.
