Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein wins Formula E World Championship
21/07/2024Pascal Wehrlein from the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has been crowned the new Formula E World Champion. Thanks to a brilliant team effort at the final race in London, the German reached the flag in second place - earning enough points to defend his lead in the World Championship, which he had only reclaimed the previous day.

In the teams' classification, the Porsche works outfit took vice-championship honours. With seven wins in one season, the Weissach team set a record. Combined with customer team Andretti Formula E's win, half (eight) of all victories this year went to the Porsche 99X Electric - more than any other car in the field.
Pascal Wehrlein joined forces with Porsche in 2020 to contest the Formula E World Championship and is the first German single-seater World Champion since Nico Rosberg became Formula 1 Champion in 2016. The first World Championship title for the Porsche works team comes at the end of five seasons in the innovative electric racing series. Seven victories in one year eclipse the record of the Renault e.dams team achieved in season 3 of Formula E.
Four of Porsche's wins are thanks to António Félix da Costa, the most successful driver of the year. In the battle to sweep the entire title pool, he threw himself totally into the cause for the team in London, making up five places in Sunday's race and crossing the finish line in fifth place. Due to a subsequent penalty, however, he was ultimately relegated down the field to P13.
The drivers from Porsche's customer team Andretti Formula E finished outside the points. Norman Nato took the flag in 12th, while Jake Dennis, this year's Diriyah race winner with the Porsche 99X Electric, was forced into retirement after a collision.

Cliffhanger for Formula E season finale: All decisions will go down to the wire at the final race on Sunday at the London ExCel Circuit. Porsche aims to sweep the title pool. Pascal Wehrlein leads the drivers' championship and Porsche ranks first in the manufacturers' trophy. In the teams' classification, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team is currently runner-up and is within striking distance of claiming that title as well.
On the spectacular street circuit in East London's Docklands, Pascal Wehrlein drove an immaculate race to achieve the seventh Formula E victory of his career - the third this season after Mexico and Misano. This win marked the eighth for the Porsche 99X Electric this year - seven of which went to the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Thanks to these successes, the works team from Weissach sets a new Formula E record.
After winning three races in a row, António Félix da Costa was shunted into the wall by a rival during his charge to catch the front-runners and was forced to abandon the race. Norman Nato crossed the finish line in tenth place for Porsche's customer team Andretti Formula E, with defending world champion Jake Dennis finishing 16th.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: "That was a sensational first race here in London with Pascal's brilliant victory. He's now moved to the top of the drivers' championship. Heading into tomorrow's final race, we're all still extremely close, so we must go for gold again. We're leading the manufacturers' trophy. It'll be tough in the teams' rankings because we lost out with António today. He was incredibly strong right from the outset today and put in some inspired overtaking moves. He'd advanced to sixth place when he and another competitor ended up in the wall. We'll give it our best shot again tomorrow, try to keep the pressure on and bring home as many titles as possible. We can build on the performance we demonstrated today. The team and drivers remained cool, calm and collected and delivered a great performance."

Porsche heads to the last two races of the season on the spectacular ExCel Circuit in East London's historic Docklands leading the manufacturers' standings - not least thanks to the seven victories achieved by the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric this season. The electric racing car from Weissach has won more races this year than any other vehicle. This season's most victorious driver also comes from Porsche: António Félix da Costa won four races, the last three in succession. With this, he has matched his record-winning streak from 2019.
Second place for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team in the teams' classification and third - though tied on points with second place - for the Porsche works driver Pascal Wehrlein in the drivers' category puts them both within striking distance of taking home the World Championship titles. What makes the challenge at the season finale so special is that the ExCel Circuit is the only racetrack in the world featuring an indoor/outdoor layout.
The points earned by Porsche's customer team Andretti Formula E also count in the bid for the manufacturers' trophy. Reigning World Champion Jake Dennis finished on the podium at the ExCel Centre twice last season. Alongside the two Porsche works drivers, he also has an outsider chance of winning the drivers' championship.

We're heading to the final races feeling highly motivated and are determined to secure the title in all three classifications. The situation looks promising: António is clearly on a roll, having won four of the last five races. We're leading the manufacturers' trophy and have recently shaved off more than half our deficit in the drivers' and teams' championships. In the past, we've not always achieved the best results in London, but particularly this season we've shown that we're good for top results on any type of track. Our TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has won six races so far and we've matched the previous record of the Renault e.dams team from season 3. We aim to wrap up the year as the sole record holder. Our main priority in London, however, is to do our best and take home one or two trophies."
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): "In Portland, we closed the gap to the drivers' championship leader. This puts us in the running to win the title outright in London. The goal for London is to have a clean weekend and to bring home as many titles as possible with a great performance. The fact that I was competitive in Portland, even though the front wing flew off early in the race, shows just how strong our package is. London is the narrowest track on the calendar, a typical street circuit with a completely different track characteristic to the last races.
