Man Charged with Fully Automatic Weapons Offense

November 12, 2024, Peoria, IL - Sunday, Jacobi M. Turner-Claudin, 31, was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon after running from police Saturday and discarding a fully automatic weapon. Today, a detention hearing was held, and the State's Petition to Detain was granted, meaning he will remain in custody until trial.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Peoria Police attempted a traffic stop in the 2200 block of W. Kettelle in the south end. As officers approached the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed and, in the process, ran into a squad car. The driver, later identified as Martell Perkins, eventually crashed into a fence. Perkins and his passenger, identified as Turner-Claudin, tried to run after the crash but were taken into custody after a brief foot chase. When officers searched their flight path, a gun was located next to the passenger side of the vehicle and in Turner-Claudin's flight path. The gun was equipped with a "switch" that converts it into a fully automatic weapon. Perkins was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and is currently being held in their custody while charges in his case are being reviewed.

This investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
