NYK Recognized as Gold-Status Fairtrade Workplace

60,000 cups of fair-trade coffee served annually at employee café
On August 1, NYK was recognized as a gold status Fairtrade Workplace under the Fairtrade Workplace registration system by Fairtrade Label Japan (Fairtrade Japan*), a non-profit organization that aims to eradicate poverty and realize sustainable livelihoods for producers through fair trade.
Fairtrade Japan's registration system, which began this year, has an annual quantity standard for each product, and for coffee the standard is 20,000 cups or more. NYK's 60,000 cups far eclipsed that standard and thus had a substantial impact on producers. NYK was one of four companies to receive the gold certification for exceeding the standard for coffee in fiscal 2023.
Fair trade products offered at the NYK employee café
Since April 2016, all coffee and tea sold at the employee café at NYK's Tokyo head office have been international fair trade certified label products. Additionally, NYK has been holding in-house lectures on fair trade to promote the products to its employees.
The NYK Group will continue to utilize its resources to improve the lives of producers and workers in developing countries by helping them become self-reliant.
