GBI Arrests Lee County Man in Death Investigation

Leesburg, GA (July 4, 2024) - The GBI has arrested and charged Tommy Clinton Jones, age 47, of Lee County, with one count of Felony Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault in connection to the death of his father, Tommy Lee Jones, age 69.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at about 3:15 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office asked the GBI to conduct a death investigation. The preliminary information indicates that Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on 1400 block of Smithville Road in Leesburg after 911 operators received a shots fired call. When deputies arrived on scene, they heard gunfire coming from inside the home. Deputies called out for Jones to come out of the home, and there was a standoff. Jones eventually came out, and deputies took him into custody. He was later booked into the Lee County Jail. Deputies also took custody of a firearm during the incident.
