Search underway for escaped offender in Hillsborough
Ramone Alston, 30, serving a life sentence for murder in Orange County, has friends and family in the area.

State correctional and local law enforcement officers are seeking Bertie Correctional Institution offender Ramone Alston (#1326788), who escaped this morning while being transported to a medical appointment in Hillsborough.
Alston, 30, is a Black male with family and friends in the area. He is serving a life sentence for a 2018 first degree murder conviction in Orange Couny.
He escaped from custody around 7 a.m. when the transport van arrived at UNC Gastroenterology on Waterstone Drive, off N.C. 86. He had freed himself from leg restraints and, still in handcuffs, jumped out and ran into adjacent woods.
