Florida PSC Sets PGS Numeric Conservation Goals

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today established demand side management (DSM) goals for Peoples Gas System (PGS) for the years 2025-2034. DSM goals for PGS were last established in 2019.

Today, the PSC approved PGS' proposed cumulative 10-year therm savings goal of 8.0 million therms, a 29.9 percent increase from its prior savings goal of 6.2 million therms. PGS' annual conservation goals focus on achieving overall therm usage reductions at residential and small-commercial end-use sites. The Commission concluded that the proposed incentives continue to be cost-effective with no undue rate impact to PGS customers.

As required, PGS incorporated technical potential measures into its residential and commercial programs. DSM measures evaluated by PGS included 33 residential, 31 commercial, and 25 industrial measures addressing water heating, cooking, HVAC, laundry, and industrial process cases. Compared to the prior goalsetting proceeding, PGS added two residential and commercial measures, and three industrial measures.

Florida Statutes require the Commission to adopt appropriate conservation goals to promote energy efficiency and the development of DSM programs. The PSC must review the goals at least once every five years. PGS is the only natural gas utility in Florida subject to DSM requirements. New conservation goals for PGS must be set by January 1, 2025.
