Man charged following alleged stabbing - Ravensworth

A man has been charged following an alleged stabbing in the state's Hunter Valley.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Saturday 23 November 2024), emergency services were called to Ravensworth Railway Station, following reports a woman had been stabbed.

On arrival, officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District were told an altercation occurred between two passengers before a woman was stabbed.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 37-year-old woman for a stab wound to the ribs.

She was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition. The man and woman are believed to be known to each other.

A short time later, police deployed a Taser and OC spray to arrest a 35-year-old man who was allegedly armed with a knife.

He was assessed by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard for assessment before being released into police custody and taken to Waratah police station.

He was charged with ten offences:

  • Wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm (DV)
  • Take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause aggravated bodily harm (DV)
  • Commit s114 offence, having previous conviction
  • Common assault (DV)
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (DV)
  • Two counts x common assault
  • Two counts x stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm
  • Intimidate police officer in execution of duty without aggravated bodily harm

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 24 November 2024).
