Vladimir Vardanyan meets with Director of International Law and Human Rights Programme

On November 6, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan met with the Director of International Law and Human Rights Programme Frederika Schweighoferova, the Programme Officer of the International Federation of Human Rights Alexandra Leibova, and the Director of the Civil Society Institute NGO Artak Kirakosyan.

During the meeting, the guests presented the achievements recorded in the works with the civil society after the ratification of the Statute of the International Criminal Court. In particular, they talked about the results of the training that was held a few days ago, which was organized for non-governmental organizations operating in Armenia.

Frederika Schweighoferova referred to the experience of different countries, the specifics of the necessary legislation to be adopted after the ratification of the Statute of the International Criminal Court.

At the request of the guests, Vladimir Vardanyan presented the features of the ratification process in Armenia. Touching upon the development of implementing legislation in the RA, the Committee Chair informed that an external discussion on the main issues of the development of legislation related to cooperation with the International Criminal Court has already been organized with the participation of the interested departments. It was noted that they are actively cooperating with the RA Ministry of Justice and the Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters.

Vladimir Vardanyan emphasized the parliamentary platform of cooperation with the International Criminal Court.

A number of issues related to raising awareness about the International Criminal Court were also discussed at the meeting.
