City of St. Petersburg Monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, Emergency Operation Center Partial Activation

September 23, 2024 - The City of St. Petersburg is monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine and encouraging residents to prepare for potential storm impacts.

Latest Storm / Incident Developments

  • The City of St. Petersburg is monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is forecast to become a tropical storm Tuesday, Sept. 24, and a hurricane by Wednesday, Sept. 25.

  • It is too early to determine the exact impacts for St. Pete; however, impacts could start as early as Wednesday, Sept. 25, due to the large size of the storm.

  • Coastal storm surge flooding is likely for much of the west coast of Florida starting as soon as late Wednesday, Sept. 25. Visit stpete.org/flooding for how to prepare.

City of St. Petersburg Preparedness Operations

  • The Emergency Operation Center will be partially activated on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

  • All non-childcare Parks & Recreation programming is cancelled on Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, after 5 p.m.

  • City staff are deploying pump stations to Riviera Bay and Shore Acres, and stationing generators.

  • City staff are cleaning storm drains in low-lying areas, and checking grates and inlets.

Non-Emergency operations have been extended until 7 p.m. at the Stormwater Pavement & Traffic Operations Building, 1744 9th Ave. N.
