Point library, which is situated in Kartanonkoski, is the only library in the rapidly growing Aviapolis major region. Point library has already for many years needed larger premises for its activities. Therefore mayor Pekka Timonen's budget proposes to the city council that an appropriation in the budget be made to transfer Point library to Jumbo. The Urban Culture and Wellbeing committee unanimously proposed this appropriation in its meeting in September.

In case the proposal is approved, preparations for Point library's move to Jumbo Shopping Centre will begin in the fall of 2024. The aim is to adopt the new library premises in the course of year 2025.

The present address of Point library is Hagelstamintie 1, which is in Kartanonkoski. On the same premises, there are also International School of Vantaa and a daycare center. Jumbo Shopping Centre is situated right next to Kartanonkoski, address: Vantaanportinkatu 3.

The aim is to gain better library services in Aviapolis

"The library's move from Kartanonkoski to the nearby Jumbo Shopping Centre would give us the chance to improve the area's library services and, at the same time, serve a bigger group of Vantaa residents," says Riikka Åstrand, deputy mayor of Vantaa Urban Culture and Wellbeing Department.

The move would provide the library with much larger premises. Furthermore, the library would be easier to access. The shopping mall has plenty of parking space, as well as barrier-free access. In the future, Vantaa light rail will also go pass it. International School of Vantaa, which needs more premises, would get the premises freed by the library.

The library's services will be planned according to residents' wishes.

"We will account for residents, when planning for the library's activities, so that we will better know what is wished from the library. There will at least be more material to be loaned, but also new services," promises Leena Toivonen, library services manager.
