SBU Research Leadership Meets with Sen. Gillibrand’s Legislative Director on Capitol Hill

On Tuesday, June 25, Stony Brook University's (SBU) Senior Associate Vice President for Research Development and Partnerships Nina Maung-Gaona met with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's Legislative Director Gil Ruiz and other members of the senator's Washington, D.C., policy team to discuss SBU's cutting-edge AI, quantum, and energy research.

In addition to highlighting SBU's innovative research, Maung-Gaona emphasized the importance of developing federal policies that provide incentives for building innovative partnerships between government, academia, and industry to accelerate the rate of advancement of critical technologies as well as the development of the necessary skilled workforce to lead the global competition.

"Bringing researchers together from diverse fields and sectors sparks groundbreaking discoveries and solutions to our world's greatest challenges," said Maung-Gaona. "Developing federal policies to support these collaborations for the greatest societal benefit is essential."

SBU leadership is grateful for Senator Gillibrand's ongoing support for federal research funding and her dedication to advancing federal science policy. Stony Brook's Office of Federal Relations located in Washington, D.C., coordinated this meeting and works closely with members of the New York congressional delegation to secure SBU's federal priorities.
