WASHINGTON, D.C. - Joint Staff Spokesperson Navy Capt. Jereal Dorsey provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., spoke with Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Ahmad Khalifa today by phone.

Gen. Brown congratulated Lt. Gen. Khalifa on his recent promotion and assignment as chief of defense and the leaders discussed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, other concerns affecting regional security and their shared objective of a stable, secure Middle East.

Egypt remains of pillar of stability within the region, and U.S. is committed to the decades-long partnership with this strategic partner.
