Assistant Secretary Stewart Travels to California
Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability (ADS) Mallory Stewart will travel to California July 17-18, 2024, to give remarks at the Public Policy and Nuclear Threats Bootcamp at the University of California's Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. She will also visit two U.S. Space Force (USSF) bases to conduct meetings with USSF leadership and visit military space operations units.
On July 17, Assistant Secretary Stewart will visit the USSF's Space Systems Command (SSC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base. During her visit, she will receive briefings on current and future space systems initiatives, discuss the critical role of SSC in maintaining and enhancing the United States' national security space architecture, and address U.S. space cooperation with allies and partners. She will also visit SpaceX to further build ADS's public-private partnerships and explore opportunities for collaboration in space security technologies. She will meet with SpaceX officials to discuss how space policy efforts coincide with the latest advancements in the commercial space industry.
On July 18, Assistant Secretary Stewart will travel to Vandenberg Space Force Base to visit several key sites to gain insight into USSF and U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) missions. She will meet with Lieutenant General Doug Schiess, Commander of U.S. Space Forces - Space (S4S), to learn about the S4S mission along with joint and allied space operations, and will impart her perspectives on Department of State space policy activities. She will also receive briefings from USSF and USSPACECOM units, to include the 18th Space Defense Squadron on the Space Domain Awareness mission and from Space Delta One on the USSF's training enterprise.
This trip underscores Assistant Secretary Stewart's commitment to foster innovation and collaboration in strengthening national defense, and to build robust partnerships across the aerospace and defense sectors with key leaders and stakeholders.
