July Steel Shipments Unchanged From Prior Month

Down 3.9 Percent YTD in 2024 from Same Period in 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of July 2024, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,160,731 net tons, a 4.1 percent decrease from the 7,467,446 net tons shipped in July 2023. Shipments were unchanged from the 7,152,135 net tons shipped in the previous month, June 2024. Shipments year-to-date in 2024 are 50,920,412 net tons, down 3.9% vs. 2023 shipments of 52,983,292 net tons for seven months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2024 to the first seven months of 2023 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 4 percent, corrosion resistant steel, down 2 percent and hot rolled steel, down 5 percent.
