Governor Carney Announces Judicial Nominations

WILMINGTON, Del. - Governor John Carney on Friday announced that he will nominate the Honorable Bonnie W. David as Vice Chancellor of the Court of Chancery, Judge Eric M. Davis to be reappointed to the position of Judge of the Superior Court, Judge Paula Terese Ryan to be reappointed to the position of Judge of the Family Court, Commissioner Paraskevi K. Wolcott to be reappointed to Commissioner of the Family Court, and Commissioner Sonja Truitt Wilson to be reappointed to Commissioner of the Family Court.

The Governor has called an Extraordinary Session of the Senate to consider the nominations on December 16, 2024.

"We are fortunate to have such qualified nominees who have the experience and judgment necessary to serve as part of Delaware's world-class judiciary," said Governor Carney. "Magistrate David has met the high standards of our Court of Chancery, and will continue to serve our state well on our country's premier venue for corporate litigation. I want to thank our new nominee and our existing Judges and Commissioners for their willingness to serve the State of Delaware through our court system. I look forward to the Senate considering these nominations."

Magistrate David will be nominated to serve as Vice Chancellor of the Court of Chancery in Sussex County. Judge David received her Bachelor's Degree from Boston University in 2010 and earned her Juris Doctorate cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2013. She has been a Magistrate in Chancery since January 2023 and previously practiced law for the firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP, where she litigated a wide variety of corporate matters before the Court of Chancery.

Judge Davis will be considered for reappointment to the position of Judge of the Superior Court in New Castle County. Judge Davis received his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1985 and his J.D. with honors from Emory University School of Law in 1992. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court in 2012, Judge Davis was a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware.

Judge Ryan will be considered for reappointment to the position of Judge of the Family Court in Sussex County. Judge Ryan earned her B.A. from University of Pennsylvania and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to being appointed to Family Court in 2012, she was a chief county prosecutor and deputy attorney general for the Delaware Department of Justice.

Commissioner Wolcott will be considered for reappointment to the position of Commissioner of the Family Court in New Castle County. Commissioner Wolcott earned a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 and a J.D. from Penn State Dickinson School of Law in 2005. She has served as a Family Court Commissioner since 2014 and previously worked for the Delaware Department of Justice's Criminal and Family Divisions.

Commissioner Wilson will be considered for reappointment to the position of Commissioner of the Family Court in Sussex County. Commissioner Wilson earned her B.A. from University of Delaware in 1989 and her J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1992. Prior to her appointment in 1997 as a Commissioner in the Family Court, she practiced family law as an associate attorney in Sussex County.
