New law brings a faster way to receive jury duty notices

Can we share your email address for the purpose of jury duty notification?

Next time you complete a driver license or identification card transaction - in person, online, or over the phone - you can expect us to ask this question. We're required to do so by a new law intended to increase juror response rates and, ultimately, jury diversity.

If you're 18 or older, the Secretary of State's Office already provides your name and mailing address to Washington Courts for possible jury selection.

Going forward, we'll ask if you'd like to give your email address as an additional way of receiving a jury duty summons. If you decline, you will still get notices by regular mail.

Opting in does not increase your chances of being selected.

According to the Washington Courts website, email notices will make it easier to reach residents who move frequently or do not have reliable mail service. Emailing a summons also allows more time for a response.
