RWJUH and Mexican Consulate Partner to Improve Mexican Community Health

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (August 6, 2024) - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Mexican Consulate in New Brunswick have formalized a partnership to enhance healthcare access and wellness for the Mexican community. Through the hospital's Community Health Promotion Program, the collaboration will offer health screenings, prevention education, and healthcare services.

The central focus of the partnership is the creation of a Ventanilla de Salud (Health Window) to address the physical and mental well-being of Mexican residents in the United States. RWJUH Community Health Promoters will be stationed at the Consulate, located at 390 George St., to provide information on primary and preventive care, eligibility for public services, and culturally competent care. By shifting care from emergency departments to appropriate settings, the initiative aims to improve overall health outcomes.

At a ceremonial signing agreement on July 30, Mayor Jim Cahill emphasized the partnership's role in creating a healthier and more informed community.

"When the Consulate opened its doors in New Brunswick in 2023 it provided much-needed access to services for Mexican nationals living in New Jersey; and we were excited to work closely with the team there on health-related programs in the community," said RWJUH President Alan Lee.

"We look forward to working together to enhance the well-being of our community and promote a culture of health," said Head Consul Mariana Diaz.
