State Police Thruway (SP Tarrytown) arrested Genaro Garcia-Cortes, age 45, from Bronx, NY, for Aggravated DWI - Leandra's Law (class "E" felony).
On November 24, 2024, at 2:58 a.m., Troopers were patrolling the Ramapo Service Area when they observed a 2017 Nissan pick-up truck parked with its headlights on.
Troopers approached the vehicle and observed a male possibly sleeping in the driver's seat with the keys in the ignition and an empty beer bottle in the front cup holder of the vehicle.
When they interviewed the operator later, identified as Genaro Garcia-Cortes, they observed a female passenger in the back seat, as well as a 10-year-old female. During the interview, Troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from him. Mr. Garcia-Cortes was subsequently arrested for DWI and transported to SP Tarrytown where he submitted to a chemical test and provided a reportable BAC of .15%. He was processed without incident and issued traffic tickets returnable to the Village of Sloatsburg Court on January 22, 2025, at 5:00 pm.
