Stockland The Gables celebrated its first Big Machine Day event on Saturday 13 July, showcasing the machinery shaping the future town centre within the masterplanned community located in Box Hill.

Mayor of The Hills Shire Council, Dr Peter Gangemi, and over 600 people attended the family-friendly event, which provided an opportunity for the community to safely visit the construction site to see the excavators, dozers and dump trucks live in action as they construct the much-anticipated town centre, Stockland Gables.

Stockland Gables will be anchored by a full-line 3,800 square metre Woolworths supermarket and include a childcare centre operated by Nido Early School, a medical centre and pharmacy, a gym, as well as several specialty shops, food and dining options. Trade commencement at the town centre is expected in early 2026.

Children played on construction themed mini-trucks and participated in activities in a construction play zone, with mini-hard hats and hi-vis vests provided by Junior Tradies. The event also included live music and entertainment, food stalls, refreshments and showbags.

Stockland's key builder partners, Mainbrace and Attcall, were also on hand to educate curious minds, young and old, about the role of each machine in large construction projects.

Stockland Project Director, Alex Koerber, said it was great to welcome the community to The Gables to celebrate the construction of the future town centre.

"As a leading creator and curator of connected communities, we continue to build on our legacy, creating places and spaces full of energy, soul and life. The first Big Machine Day at Stockland The Gables was a huge success - the community enjoyed seeing the big diggers live in action as they worked to build the future town centre," Mr Koerber said.

"The Gables is a vibrant community, surrounded by transport links, schools, and green space. Once complete, the town centre will be a convenient place for residents to pick up their daily necessities, come together, relax and enjoy a meal while overlooking a future four-hectare lake next to the centre."

The Gables is a masterplanned community home to nearly 4,500 residents and once complete is expected to be home to around 13,000 residents from first homebuyers through to retirees.
