Presentation of a Senftenberg class chronicle

Over 50 years of alumni history

Before smartphones and social media, many people recorded their remarkable moments with analog photos and handwritten chronicle books. It wasn't actually that long ago, and yet today such books seem historically valuable, as if from a completely different era. You have to hold such a large book full of contemporary history in your own hands to appreciate the impressive difference to scrolling through a social media timeline.

Fortunately, the Senftenberg seminar group 73/II from Automation Technology started to maintain such a book at the beginning of their studies in September 1973 and recorded various highlights from their periods of study with small contributions and photos. The result is a wonderful document full of contemporary history of everyday student life in Senftenberg with work assignments, sports festivals, carnival celebrations and many other events.

The seminar group remained in friendly contact after graduation and still meets regularly today. They also continued to maintain their class chronicle and documented some of their wonderful alumni meetings.

In this way, half a century of alumni history has been lovingly and impressively recorded by the Senftenberg seminar group.

The chronicle has now been handed over to the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, where it is kept in the Senftenberg university archive and can be admired. Perhaps it will be a suitable inspiration for current students to follow their example and produce a similar chronicle of their studies themselves.

Former physics lecturer Michael Franke (1st from right) was also present at the presentation of the class chronicle by alumnus Reiner Nitschke (2nd from right). He also studied mining engineering in Senftenberg from 1965 to 1968 and then immediately afterwards became a lecturer at the university from 1968 to 1991. The chronicle was accepted by the head of the Senftenberg University Archive Marlies Hennig, the site officer for public relations in Senftenberg Ralf-Peter Witzmann and the officer for alumni work Daniel Ebert on behalf of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
