Seawolves cut down Knights for 2-0 start

Anchorage (Oct. 26) - Senior guard Sean Evans scored 21 points and Bishop Tosi had 15 points and nine rebounds Saturday to propel the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team to an 88-50 rout of Warner Pacific at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (2-0) also got 12 points on 4-of-10 three-point shooting from junior guard Tyler Burraston as they outshot the NAIA visitors .485 to .304 and outrebounded them 45-31.

The Knights - who counted the game as an exhibition - were led by 10 points and five rebounds from starting guard Terrin Dickey.

"Tonight was another positive step forward for us," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne. "With three huge games coming up next week, we were able to get more experience together as a new group, and we showed nice balance offensively. It was also great to see (redshirt junior) Malik Jackson finally get a chance to play and contribute (9 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists in 15 minutes) after fighting through some tough injuries last season."

After a somewhat slow start to Friday's 80-55 win over the same team, the Seawolves took control early in the rematch. Trailing 3-2, the UAA got consecutive three-pointers from Burraston and Evans, followed by a dunk and three-point play from Tosi. UAA led 19-3 when Jackson finished the surge with two free throws, and cruised to a 44-16 advantage by halftime.

Evans - a transfer from fellow NCAA Div. II program Nebraska-Kearney - shot 8 of 13 overall and 3 of 6 from long range, along with four assists, six rebounds and no turnovers in a team-high 26 minutes.

Tosi shot 6 of 7 from the field and grabbed seven offensive rebounds, while junior forward John McFadden added seven rebounds off the bench.

Junior guard Zach Ibbetson had eight points and two assists, and redshirt freshman guard Parker Kroon had seven points on 3-of-3 shooting and an assist in just five minutes.

The Seawolves travel next week for three contests at the D2 Tip-Off Classic in Billings, Mont., facing St. Edward's in the first game Friday (3 p.m. ADT). Find links to live video and stats for every game at GoSeawolves.com.
