Flipboard Brings 250 Publishers to the Fediverse

Today Flipboard is federating 250 publisher profiles and 4,000 of their curated Magazines, making it possible for people across the fediverse to find and follow their content.

The fediverse is an open social network with millions of people from around the world. Flipboard is joining this community by opening its platform, making the great content, curation and communities on Flipboard available to anyone in the fediverse. This next wave of federated Flipboard accounts brings diverse stories on topics like the U.S. 2024 election, science breakthroughs, sports news, fashion trends and interior design to people on federated networks, such as Mastodon.

As publishers look for ways to elevate their coverage, social media and search have been important strategies for discovery. But now, with algorithms obfuscating creators' relationships with followers and AI search results summarizing news, there's added complexity to finding new audiences. By building direct followers in the fediverse, publishers have an opportunity to reclaim control over their distribution and their relationship with readers. Our hope is that we can help publishers build a presence and a new audience in the fediverse.

There are now more than 400 publishers sharing in the fediverse via their Flipboard accounts. This allows them to syndicate their content more broadly and reach new readers. Publishers can see their new fediverse followers and engage with the community through their in-app notifications on Flipboard.

As the fediverse expands, we continue to bring Flipboard's best partners to people looking for high-quality content on issues and topics of interest. Some excellent examples (and their fediverse handles) are below.

These world-class publishers join hundreds of Flipboard partners already federated, including Axios, CBS Sports, The Conversation, Euronews, Fast Company, Medium, National Observer (Canada), The 19th, Semafor, Smithsonian Magazine, and The Verge. You can see a list of all the federated Flipboard profiles here.
