Penn State Altoona to present ‘They Call Me Q’ Sept. 4

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona will host a performance of "They Call Me Q" at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

"They Call Me Q" tells the story of a girl from Bombay growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between cultural pressure and acceptance into the American culture. Along the journey, Qurrat Ann Kadwani transforms into 13 characters that have shaped her life, including her Indian parents, Caucasian teachers, Puerto Rican classmates and Indian and African-American friends.

"Broadway World DC" wrote that Kadwani has "an undeniable talent for accents and gives the audience a theatrical experience that it will remember far after the show." Laden with heart and abundant humor, "They Call Me Q," a coming-of-age tale that the Montreal Gazette says is "witty, polished, inspiring," gives voice to the universal struggles for identity and self-understanding experienced by immigrants of all nationalities.

The event is free and open to the public.
