ACL Announces 2024 Falls Prevention Grant Award

August 23, 2024

ACL is pleased to announce the award of the 2024 Enhancing Statewide Falls Prevention Awareness, Strategy, and Collaboration funding opportunity to the National Council on Aging (NCOA).

The total award is for $2.5 million with a project period from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026.

The intent of this initiative is to facilitate the development and enhancement of collaborative efforts of state falls prevention coalitions to reduce falls or the risk of falls, or both, among older adults and adults with disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers. NCOA will leverage and expand upon falls prevention efforts across the country. They will collaborate with the aging and disability network and other stakeholders to disburse subawards to state falls prevention coalitions or to organizations that are developing new coalitions in states that are not yet served by one.

These coalitions may work on projects to increase availability and accessibility to evidence-based falls prevention interventions; analyze state data to identify gaps; leverage resources; expand awareness; and educate professionals, older adults, and caregivers about how they can reduce their risk of falling.

In the United States, about 1 in 4 older adults falls each year, which can have a serious impact on their health and reduce their ability to remain independent. Many falls are preventable. One proven way to mitigate the risk of falling is to participate in a prevention program.
