Statement for the Record: Casey Discusses Efforts to Ensure Federal Tech Accessibility for People with Disabilities

In a statement submitted Wednesday to the Congressional Record, U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Bob Casey outlined his efforts to ensure that the federal government's technology is accessible for people with disabilities. Existing law requires federal websites, apps, electronic documents, and other technology to be accessible for, and usable by, people with disabilities. However, an investigation led by Chairman Casey found failures by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the entire federal government, to make technology accessible. Chairman Casey's bipartisan efforts have pushed VA to improve and enhanced reporting and transparency throughout the federal government. However, work remains to be done, and Chairman Casey recently introduced S. 4766, the Section 508 Refresh Act, to make the most significant updates to federal tech accessibility law in over 25 years.
