Orange County Announces Pet Adoption Fees to be Paid by Local Business

Orange County, FL - Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) announced today that pet adoption fees will be covered by Webb Engineering, a Winter Park civil engineering firm, for the first week of July (July 1 - July 7). The offer comes as OCAS is seeking adopters, foster parents, and volunteers. Currently, OCAS has 414 animals in their care near the Mall at Millenia and an additional 277 in foster care.

"It's staggering to witness how the number of homeless animals in our care spikes up each summer, starting with kitten season," said Diane Summers, Manager for Orange County Animal Services. "During times like this we appreciate every bit of support, every adoption, every foster care stint and especially the people at Webb Engineering who want to do everything they can to help get animals into homes."

Webb Engineering sponsored fees for a single weekend in June, resulting in 103 adoptions and a $4,590 donation to OCAS. The promotion was well received, and both the local business and the shelter are excited to offer it again.

"We do this to help get homes for animals, and to get them out of the shelters," said Jackie Webb, President of Webb Engineering. "All animals need a home and to be loved."

The promotion coincides with the Fourth of July Holiday, which is another busy time for animal shelters.

"Every year we see animals displaced during celebrations and fireworks," said Summers. "We want to encourage pet owners to take precautions, so their pet is safe."

OCAS recommends these safety tips from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA):

• Keep your pet appropriately tagged and microchips up to date with current owner information.
• Leave pets at home when attending parties or fireworks displays.
• If you have traffic in and out of your home on the holiday, keep your pets confined in a designated space so they cannot escape.
• Keep all fireworks, sparklers and similar tools away from pets.
• Be mindful of the sun and heat if celebrating outdoors with animals. Keep pets inside and comfortable as much as possible.

OCAS will be closed on Thursday, July 4, and hope all people and pets have a fun and safe holiday.
