Fostering cooperation between UNESCO and Tohoku University through the signing of MOU

On August 12, 2024, the Graduate School of Education at Tohoku University and the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia formalized a new partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing. The MOU was signed by Prof Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and Prof Hideki Kozima, Dean of the Graduate School of Education of Tohoku University. The signing ceremony, held at the premises of the Regional Office and was witnessed by Prof Liu Jing and students from Tohoku University and Mr. Robert Parua, Education Programme Specialist, Dr. Ai Sugiura, Natural Sciences Programme Specialist, and staff of the UNESCO Beijing Office.

Aligned with the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia's regional strategy and vision to strengthen cooperation with Japanese Universities and institutions in East Asia, the signing of MOU will signal a new era of cooperation.

Following the signing ceremony, Prof. Shahbaz Khan and Prof. Hideki Kozima delivered remarks highlighting the significance of this partnership. Prof. Khan expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO and the Japanese Government, noting that the agreement represents a significant step in strengthening collaboration within the East Asia region and beyond.
