The City's Traffic Division made changes to the intersection at Avenue S and 53^rd Street to ease traffic and make turning safer.

As of today, lights for traffic moving eastbound and westbound on Avenue S will alternate. This means eastbound traffic will have a 40 second green light while westbound traffic remains red. The westbound lane will then have a 40 second green light while eastbound traffic remains red. This is the result of a traffic study and intended to improve the safety of the intersection by making it easier for traffic to turn onto 53^rd and avoiding backups for those waiting behind a car to turn.

The lights for 53^rd Street for northbound and southbound traffic will remain the same, with each getting a green light at the same time.
