Dorchester Drug Control Unit Recovered a Firearm and Drugs After a Search Warrant

At about 7:10 PM, on Friday, August 16, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested John Russ, 41, of Boston, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing investigation in the area of 1445 Dorchester Avenue. Officers located the involved suspect and advised him that they had a search warrant for his person. Officers conducted a search of the suspect and recovered a firearm from the suspect's waistband.

The firearm was later determined to be a Heckler and Koch firearm with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine. Officers conducted an inquiry of the firearm serial number, which revealed that it was stolen. Officers also recovered fourteen paper folds containing about seven grams of crack cocaine as well as distribution amounts of marijuana.

Russ was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Having a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Receiving Stolen Property, Armed Career Criminal 1, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
